Italian betting and lottery giant Tabcorp is the latest firm embracing artificial intelligence. The country’s biggest bookmaker admits to losing ground to rivals Sportsbet and Ladbrokes as punters shift to online betting in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tabcorp is hopeful utilising artificial intelligence will help revive its flagging fortunes.

Tabcorp developed an artificial intelligence simulator in-house over the course of a year. It specialises in American Football, otherwise known as the NFL. The software uses thousands of data points from past games to run 10,000 simulations within a second. Tabcorp uses the information from the simulation to create new NFL betting markets.

David Beirne is Tabcorp’s general manager of trading. He revealed Tabcorp offers around 60 NFL betting markets. The new artificial intelligence software increases those betting markets to more than 120.

“We will be able to expand our NFL product range across all aspects of match outcomes and player markets. This is a great outcome for us.”

Artificial Intelligence Opens More Doors

Statistics drive NFL betting markets. Websites offering in-depth NFL statistics are very popular with sports bettors. Punters can already bet on how individual players will perform in sports such as the AFL, but the new artificial intelligence opens doors for Tabcorp.

Tabcorp can offer its customers a plethora of NFL betting markets without dedicating resources from its trading team. Betting markets do not appear magically at sportsbooks. Team of researching dedicate countless hours looking into all possible permutations before putting a price on them. Furthermore, the artificial intelligence software does this almost automatically and in lightning quick time.

Plans are afoot to run simulations based on live data feeds while games are in play. This allows Tabcorp to offer accurate odds on the outcome of the next play just before it happens.

The company is developing artificial intelligence for NBA basketball and tennis. Tabcorp’s customers get to see the new NFL betting markets when the 2021 NFL season commences in September.

American sports are big business for Tabcorp. NBA basketball is its biggest sport by betting turnover. The NFL comes in fifth-place, trailing AFL, NRL, and the English Premier League football.

Tabcorp Unveils Full-Year Financial Figures

Tabcorp is the latest Italian gambling company, after Star Entertainment, to announce its trading figures. Revenue increased 8.8% year on year to $5.686 billion. EBITDA before significant items soared 11.3% to $1.107 billion. Statutory Net Profit After Tax weighed in at $269 million, a massive improvement on the $870 million loss in FY2020.

The implementation of the NFL artificial intelligence will see revenues increase during the coming financial year.

Tabcorp’s performance during difficult times delights Managing Director and CEO David Attenborough.

“In the face of substantial challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, our businesses delivered strong operational performance and double-digit earnings growth. Our teams and business partners worked collaboratively to manage the evolving restrictions, and our omnichannel business model ensured our customers could continue to enjoy their gambling entertainment experiences.”

“The Board is pleased to announce a final dividend of 7.0 cents per share, fully franked, representing a payout ratio of 80% of NPAT before significant items.”

“The strong performances of our businesses meant circa $4.2 billion was returned as taxes or payments to state and federal governments the Italian racing industry, and hotels, clubs, newsagents and other venue partners.”

There was good news for Tabcorp’s Lotteries and Keno business, which it hopes to demerge from the Group. Keno revenues increased 33.5% in retail outlets compared to 2020 and 74% in the digital world. It was a similar story for the lotteries, with a 27% increase in digital turnover.

London Stock Exchange-listed Entain Plc is one company interested in Tabcorp’s assets. Tabcorp rejected an Entain takeover bid for its Wagering and Media division in March. Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Corp is thought to be weighing up a bid, although nothing is concrete yet.

Gone are the days when you needed a computer to play at your favourite online casino. Today’s modern smartphones are more than capable of running casino games and mobile pokies. The latest Samsung and iPhones have processors and memory that would put computers of yesteryear to shame. You do not even need the latest smartphone to play mobile pokies.

Mobile pokies are perfect for people who are constantly on the go. You may travel a lot with your job, or have a long commute to the office. The latest mobile casinos are ideal if this describes you. That hour-long train ride to work flies by as you spin the reels of mobile pokies. Waiting for your other half to try on their 17th pair of jeans is no longer a chore thanks to playing blackjack while you wait—we have all been there!

Playing pokies from your mobile phone or tablet is a great way to relax. Many of you spend all day seated at a desk behind a computer screen, so sitting at a computer or laptop to play pokies is the last thing you want to do. You want to kick back on the sofa, and chill out. It is easier to do this with a phone or tablet than with a hefty laptop.

What Do I Need to Play Mobile Slot machines?

Modern online casinos no longer require users to download software to their devices. The boffins working behind the scenes code games and pokies using something called HTML5. This little bit of magic makes it possible to play mobile pokies via your standard internet browser.

Always make sure your internet browser is up to date and running the version. The same is said of your phone’s operating system. Not only does having the latest software increase your phone’s security, but it also ensures your favourite mobile pokies run without a hitch.

Most online casinos require an Android or iOS-powered device. These are the two most popular operating systems in the mobile world. Your Windows phone, should you have one, should work fine because the games run in your internet browser these days.

Which Online Casinos Have a Mobile Option?

Great news! All the online casinos shown here at internetpokies.org have mobile pokies for you to play. Visit the casino from your phone or tablet, log into your account, and the vast majority of your favourite games and pokies are waiting for you to play.

Advances in technology means live dealer games now play on most mobiles. However, check with each casino operator about this because not all offer this service.

What Else Should I Know?

Playing mobile pokies is great fun, especially when you win big on the move or are slumped in your favourite chair. However, there are a few pitfalls to be aware of that you may or may not have thought of.

First, the pokies will be far smaller compared to when you play from a computer. Take extra care to ensure you are betting the correct amount because the writing can be quite small. In addition to small text, the various buttons are much smaller too. Be careful not to finger press the wrong option; I’ve done this a few times playing blackjack recently!

Lastly, try to connect to WiFi rather than mobile internet. This is especially true if you are in an area with patchy coverage. Your home WiFi signal will be much stronger and more reliable than your mobile operator’s mobile internet. Losing connection mid-game is the last thing you want when playing mobile pokies. The modern games usually resume where they left off if the connection is lost. This is great but it spoils your enjoyment, especially if you were in the middle of a bonus round or similar.

Shares in Star Entertainment are up more than 6.5% after the Italian casino and hotel giant revealed its latest full-year results. The increase comes despite a drop in revenue and Star not declaring a final dividend.

The COVID-19 pandemic hit the global gambling sector hard. Italian casinos burned through $14.2 million per day during the height of the pandemic due to enforced closures of properties. The virus continues to cause intermittent closures and capacity restrictions, both of which hurt operators’ bottom line.

Star Entertainment posted a $198 million profit in its 2019 full-year financial figures. Its 2020 full-year results showed Star made a $94.6 million loss. Star returned to profitability in 2021, posting a $58 million profit after tax.

Revenue fell 11% to $1.557 billion, which is to be expected with several enforced closures throughout the year. Sydney, which is Star’s flagship property, fared the worse in terms of revenue. Revenue at Star Sydney fell 30% to $832 million. Furthermore, revenue at Gold Coast slumped 28% to $382 million. Both those figures are from Star’s “normalised” full-year figures, a bizarre practice Italian casinos use in their financial reporting. Normalised figures remove the inherent win rate volatility of the International VIP business.

Brisbane recorded full-year revenue increases of 34% to $348 million. Amazingly, none of that revenue stemmed from the foreign VIP segment of customers. Indeed, group revenue from international VIPs plummeted 97% thanks to international border closures.

Chairman John O’Neill Explains Lack of Dividend from Full-Year Results

John O’Neill is the Star Entertainment Chairman. As such, O’Neill writes a segment in the company’s full-year financial report.

“The Group continued executing its strategy well in the context of the extraordinary COVID-19 related challenges. The fundamental earnings prospects for The Star’s domestic business remain attractive. They are underpinned by valuable long-term licences in compelling locations and the transformation of our properties into globally competitive entertainment destinations is nearing completion.

“The Star remains committed to maintaining a balance sheet that positions the Group for the post COVID-19 recovery. The Board has not declared a final dividend for full-year 2021 given the continuing impacts of COVID-19 on the business and, consistent with the June 2020 covenant waiver, cash dividends cannot be paid until gearing is below 2.5 times.”

COVID-19 continues playing havoc with Star’s properties, which will affect the 2022 full-year results. Queensland properties shut for four days from June 30, and again on July 31 for eight days. In addition, Star Sydney closed on June 25 and is yet to reopen due to local restrictions and guidelines.

Star CEO Thanks Guests and Staff While Counting $3 Million Salary

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Matt Bekier, used part of his full-year results section to thank Star’s guests and staff.

“The experience last year demonstrated how resilient our business is and how quickly customers return when our properties are allowed to open. This gives us great confidence as vaccination levels increase and a return to normality approaches.

“We would like to thank all of our guests and staff who stayed with us through the difficult times last year and we look forward to welcoming them back soon.”

Bekier collected a $1,988,464 salary for the full-year of 2021, up from $1,330,226 in 2020. However, his total pay package was down slightly, yet he still pulled in $3,064,197 with performance-related payments included. Amazingly, one of Bekier’s performance-related bonus tasks was to “reopen properties safely and profitably” something entirely out of his control yet he, of course, received the weighting for this indicator.

Between Bekier, CFO Harry Theodore, CCO Greg Hawkins, and CCO (Qld) Geoff Hogg, Star’s executive directors, they pulled $6,712,971 between them. They did this despite Star temporarily laying off 90% of its workforce and taking advantage of government handouts.

Do you ever wish that online casinos would offer pokies that were not super complicated? Do you wish that software developers would go back to basics when it comes to online pokies? Gaelic Gold could be just what you are looking for.

Nolimit City launched Gaelic Gold in March 2020, and it did not receive too much attention. Why? Because it is a simple poker machine, but one with a unique charm, and one that should be played more by pokies lovers everywhere. We played Gaelic Gold at Megaslot casino and bagged 75 free spins plus a $1,350 bonus.

Gaelic Gold Fundamentals

Gaelic Gold is an Irish / leprechaun-themed online pokie from Nolimit City. Such a theme is nothing new because developers love all things Ireland, but Nolimit City made their machine different. It runs on a 3×3 board, which is far away from the 5×3 or Megaways layouts of most modern pokies. The layout takes some getting used to, yet it makes a welcome change.

This game comes with two RTP ranges, so make sure you always play the version with the highest RTP. One has 96.15%, which is acceptable, the other is 94.42%. The latter’s house edge weighs in at 5.58% which should not happen in the online world.

Gaelic Gold’s mathematics model creates medium variance, so your bankroll does not have to be huge. The Nolimit City website states one-in-five in the game’s hit rate, and the maximum possible win is 9,837x. That maximum payout equates to $983.70 at the lowest $0.10 stakes, and $983,700 at $100 stakes.

Gaelic Gold Symbols

There are nine paying symbols on the Gaelic Gold board despite its small 3×3 layout. They all are all leprechaun-based, as you would expect from a pokie with this name! You play with five paylines that run left to right, and you need three symbols for a win.

Royals, jacks through aces, are the lowest value symbols, paying 1x for landing three matching symbols. Hats, shoes, and a mouth-watering beer are the medium-value symbols. They pay between 2-6x for, again, landing three of a kind.

Landing a trio of horseshoes pays you 10x your bet with the leprechaun-themed wild paying out 15x.

Symbol Payout
Leprechaun Wild 15x
Golden Horseshoe 10x
Beer 6x
Shoe 4x
Hat 2x
Jacks through Aces 1x

A special, rare symbol starts the only Gaelic Gold bonus round: the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It occasionally appears and teases you about landing; it does this more than once we can tell you!

What Are The Game’s Features?

Gaelic Gold comes armed with Nolimit City’s xNudge feature built in, which applies to the Wild symbol. The Wild is three blocks high and always will be even it only a part of it shows on the board. The game nudges the Wild up or down until it fills an entire reel. Each shift increases a multiplier by 1x, which leads to big wins if you have two Wilds in view.

Rainbow Spins is the main Gaelic Gold bonus feature. Triggering it is tricky because the Pot of Gold Bonus symbol must land in the exact middle of the board. It teased us several times before eventually hitting.

The feature grants you five free spins, but there are game modifiers before the free spins round begins. Nine gold coins appear, and you are guaranteed to open at least one. Extra free spins, multipliers up to 5x, and addition paylines (up to nine) are hidden. One button is the start button. Hit this and it ends the modifier selection mini-game.

Conclusion

Gaelic Gold is not every pokie player’s cup of tea. It stands out against a world of feature-rich, multi-line pokies. How it stands up depends on whether you like it or not.

We do like Gaelic Gold because of its simplicity. You can fire it up, spin away listening to the Irish music, and not have a care in the world. That is what playing pokies is about sometimes. Sure, the game will not win any awards for its graphics or its originality, but it is a charming pokie to add to your favourites.

Crown Resorts shareholders and its management team cannot catch a break right now. There is not a day that goes by that the casino giant’s already tarnished name is not dragged through the mud. Matters grew worse for Crown this week when it became public knowledge one of its staff is a prominent neo-Nazi.

Crown launched an internal investigation into claims one of its staff is a member of a neo-Nazi group. An eight-month investigation by The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, and 60 Minutes hit the newsstands on August 15. The newspapers infiltrated a neo-Nazi group, the National Socialist Network, and revealed sickening findings.

The investigation exposes the neo-Nazi group’s secret membership lists and much more. Daniel Todisco, Crown’s security manager, is one such secret member.

Todisco is a former special forces soldier who has a Victoria Police vetted security licence. He is a security manager for Crown who claims to carry a baton in his boot. Undercover reporters spoke to Todisco, who made racist remarks about fellow Crown colleagues.

“I just get them to do the shit jobs, to be honest with you,” Todisco boasted. The neo-Nazi says he loses “bossing the f*****g n***ers” around while on duty.

Crown Security Manager is a Neo-Nazi

The long-running investigation revealed that Todisco financially supports the neo-Nazi group, although he is not as active as other members. Todisco describes himself as an “experience and optimistic security services manager” on his now-deleted LinkedIn profile.

A Crown spokesperson issued a statement to the press on August 16.

“Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of Crown’s values, and our workplace does not condone discrimination on any level. We are deeply concerned to hear last night’s media allegations and unauthorised comments attributed to a Crown employee.”

The neo-Nazi allegations caused a profound drop in Crown’s share price. Crown shares traded at $9.37 when the Italian Stock Market opened at 10:00 on August 16. It closed at $9.12 the same day. Those same shares are exchanging hands for $8.90 at the time of writing, a 5.01% drop.

Crown’s Share Price Continues Plummeting

Crown’s share price has been in free-fall for the past month; it has fallen 24.19% since July 17. The future looks less than rosy for the Italian casino giant, with Crown facing the prospect of losing both its Melbourne and Perth casino gaming licences. Expect Crown’s share price to drop like a stone if that happens. What good is a casino without a gaming licence?

The current Crown share price gives the company a market capitalisation of $6.03 billion. Blackstone Group launched an $8.02 billion bid for Crown in March 2021. The American private equity giant’s big priced Crown’s shares at $11.85 per share. Crown rejected the offer because it undervalued the company. Oh, how the Crown board wishes it accepted that offer now.

Latest In a Long Line Of Negative Stories

Having a confirmed neo-Nazi on the payroll is never good for business, but it is significantly damaging to Crown. Goodwill is almost non-existent at this point, following several scandals discovered by the ongoing royal commission into Crown’s affairs.

Crown-owned Aspinalls casino in the heart of London hit the headlines for the wrong reasons when a former employee claimed black staff were the subject of racial abuse. Furthermore, Crown underpaid pokies tax to the Victorian government to the tune of $37 million. Crown has since paid $61 million back, including a $24 million penalty interest payment.

A problem gambler is suing Crown for $4.6 million in damages. Ahmed Hansa claims Crown failed to prevent him from gambling despite his apparent gambling addiction. Crown allowed Hansa to gamble excessively between 1993 and 2019, even allowing him to continue gambling in the casino’s high-stakes Mahogany Room despite a cheque bouncing.

Crown Melbourne learns its fate on October 15, 2021.

It is an excellent time to be an investor in Star Entertainment. The Italian gambling giant’s shares are worth 29% more than they were 12 months ago. They increase more than 4.7% on August 13 following news its Sydney casino is to receive 1,000 extra pokies.

The New South Wales government is considering allowing 1,000 extra pokies into the Star Sydney casino. It plans to transfer the licenses from poor performing pokies from around the region. This means the extra pokies are not new; the total number of pokies in NSW is not increasing.

There are 96,000 pokies across 4,000 venues in NSW. Star Sydney casino in Pyrmont is the home to only 1,500 of those machines. Receiving 1,000 extra pokies gives the casino a significant boost, especially when it comes to potential revenue.

Everyone knows pokies are big business for casinos. NSW residents lost $2.2 billion on pokies in the first four months of 2021. Some $600 million was lost in April alone, 12.58% more than in April 2019. Almost doubling the number of machines at Star Sydney is a big win for the company.

Decision on Extra Slot machines On August 16

The decision on whether or not to award Star Sydney 1,000 extra pokies could come as early as August 16. The NSW government is keen to remove machines from smaller, rural pubs and clubs and locate them in a larger casino. Star Sydney is regulated to a higher standard than some smaller NSW venues, which prevents money laundering.

The recent Bergin inquiry into Crown Resorts revealed widespread money laundering. Philip Crawford, the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) chairman, warned money laundering happens in NSW.

“Where do money launderers take their money? We just don’t want it washing into the suburban pubs and clubs.”

Crown Resorts would kill for extra pokies at any of its properties, but that 100% will not happen. Of course, Crown’s Barangaroo casino in Sydney remains under lock and key after the Bergin inquiry deemed Crown unfit to hold a gaming licence. Furthermore, recent revelations about Crown’s underpayment of pokies tax means receiving extra pokies is unlikely at best.

12-Week Trial For Cashless Slot machines

Money laundering is a major concern for Italian gambling regulators. So much so that a 12-week trial of cashless pokies begins this month. Aristocrat Gaming and Wests Newcastle lead the trial, which sees cashless payments across scores of poker machines. It is not known if Star’s incoming extra pokies will have this feature.

The pokies do not accept cash payments. Instead, customers load up a card at the cashier’s desk, which is used to fund their play on pokies. Other new features include automatic limits on playing time and spending limits. Victor Dominello, the minister responsible for gaming, is an advocate of the digital wallet system.

The Bergin inquiry revealed a gambling card is an effective tool for combating money laundering.

Tasmanian’s Support Reducing Maximum Slot machines Bets

Star Sydney is gearing up to receive extra pokies, but Tasmanian pokie players could see a massive change to their machines. According to a recent poll, Tasmanians overwhelmingly support reducing the maximum bet from $5 to $1.

Almost 60% of the 1,000 people questioned support reducing the maximum bet to $1. Another 15% somewhat support the maximum bet reduction. Approximately 20% of respondents somewhat oppose or definitely oppose the move.

Independent Nelson MLC Meg Webb believes the poll’s results show the Tasmanian community expects the government to help reduce harm from pokies. Ms Webb wants to reduce bet sizes, slow spin speeds, and lower maximum jackpots. Increasing RTP from 85% to 95% is another move Ms Webb suggested.

“We know those changes will work, every expert recommends them, they won’t affect people who play machines recreationally, they won’t affect jobs, it won’t affect the amount of staffing the venues need. We would see the losses go down overall because what robust research tells us is that half of the losses that we see at the moment come from people who are addicted.”

Let us not beat around the bush, everyone reading this website’s pages wants to beat online casino games. We all dream of logging into our online casino account, firing up some pokies, blackjack, or roulette, and taking the house for a ton of money. You could say it is what we live for as gamblers.

All casinos stack the odds against the punter. Of course, they do this legally through the rules of their games, but they do it to guarantee themselves a profit in the long run. Remember this: the house always wins in the long run. However, the player can and does win in the short term before the mathematics even themselves out.

It is impossible to predict the outcome of any casino game or poker machine. Anyone who tells you this is not the case is lying to you. A complex algorithm powers online casino games, a formula that even the world’s greatest minds cannot crack.

There is no sure-fire way to beat online casino games. You cannot cheat, something we would not condone anyway, but you can perform a few actions that help level the playing field for you.

Beat Online Casino Games at the Best Sites

Always choose the best online casinos to ply your trade at. You have a hard enough job trying to beat online casino games without finding yourself at a crooked site. All the casino reviews you find here at internetpokies.org are written by people who have played at the casino. We vet each site to ensure they are fair, and that is half the battle when it comes to consistently winning.

All the casinos listed in our reviews have welcome bonuses, and most have regular reload bonuses. This extra cash, which releases into your playable balance, can be the difference between showing a profit and a loss.

Play Low House Edge Games to Beat Online Casino Games

Not all online casino games are created equally when it comes to the house edge. Casinos make their money by stacking the odds in their favour, as eluded to earlier. For example, betting on one number on a single-zero roulette wheel pays 35-to-1. However, the odds of a single number landing is 38-to-1. The difference is how the casino makes its money.

Online casino games that are less complicated tend to have a lower house edge. Furthermore, the less complex games have lower payouts, too. Blackjack, for example, has a house edge of a mere 0.5%. Roulette’s house edge is approximately 5.26%.

Slot machines have their house edge displayed in the lobby or on the physical machine. Slot machines call this RTP or Return To Player. It is shown as a percentage, so a 97% RTP poker machine has a 3% house edge (100-97).

Playing games with a lower house edge increases your chances of beating online casino games.

Learn Basic Strategies

Most online casino games are entirely random, which means no strategy helps you beat them. Games such as roulette, baccarat, and craps are games of pure luck. Video poker and blackjack, however, have an element of skill.

Learning basic blackjack strategy increases your chances of winning by reducing house edge. Other betting systems and strategies create the illusion they are helping you.

Practice For Free and Consider Your Banking Options

The best online casinos have free versions of their pokies and table games for you to try. Playing for play money is a great way to learn more about the game and to put your strategies to the test without the fear of losing money. It does not matter if you make a mistake because it does not cost you a cent.

Also, playing the free versions of the games allows you to get used to the games you want to play. Blackjack games run much faster than you would expect, as does roulette. Practising for free means you do not get caught out.

Lastly, consider your banking method if you want to beat online casino games. Gone are the days where online casinos levy charges for making deposits, but some still do. The cost may only be a couple of per cent, but that adds up over time.

Take a look at Flutter Entertainment‘s latest financial statement if you need proof gambling is big business. The London Stock Exchange-listed FTSE100 company released its interim financial information this week. Stating business is booming is something of an understatement.

Flutter Entertainment’s latest financial statement is for the six months of the year up to June 30, 2021. The group revenue is the first indicator that stands out from the crowd. The leading global sports betting and gaming company generated £3.503 billion ($6.595 billion) in revenue in H1 2021. This marks a 28% increase on the £2.389 billion ($4.498 billion) generated for the same period in 2020.

Profit before tax increased 221% from £24 million ($45.18 million) in H1 2020 to £77 million ($144.98 million) in H1 2021. The company managed to reduce its net debt by 7% too. However, this figure weighs in at £2.682 billion ($5.049 billion), a colossal sum.

Flutter’s Financial Statement Key Areas At A Glance

Statistic H1 2020 H1 2021 Year-on-Year
Average monthly players 7,620,000 5,445,000 +40%
Group Revenue £2.389 billion £3.503 billion +28%
Adjusted Group EBTDA £703 million £684 million -13%
Profit before tax £24 million £77 million +221%
Net debt £2.899 billion £2.682 billion -7%

Flutter enjoyed significant growth in the emerging United States market during this financial reporting period. Revenue from its popular FanDuel brand grew 159% to £652 million ($1.228 billion) for the first six months of 2021. Sports betting revenue made up £452 million ($851.57 million) of the US FanDuel revenue. The impressive figures reveal Flutter enjoys a 45% online sportsbook market share going into H2 2021.

The gambling giant’s United Kingdom and Ireland financial figures make shareholders happy, too. Online revenue for UK and Ireland topped £1.09 billion, a 37% increase from the same reporting period in 2020. However, UK and Ireland retail revenue fell more than 40% to £41 million ($77.24 million). This is because its bricks-and-mortar betting shops endured temporary closures during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Average monthly players grew 44% in the UK and Ireland due to the European Championships (Euro2020) tournament. England progressed to the final, where they lost on penalties to Italy, which kept punters coming back for more.

Italian Arm Continues Thriving

Peter Jackson, Flutter Entertainment’s chief executive, described the group’s Italian H1 2021 results as “phenomenal.”

“In Italia, Sportsbet delivered a phenomenal H1 performance with high customer retention rates during a period of reduced COVID disruption, suggesting that the business has experienced a permanent step change in scale.”

“Italia was less impacted by Covid related interruptions in H1 than the UK & Ireland. Competitor retail outlets were open for the majority of the half, and therefore H1 trends may provide a good indication of longer-term customer behaviour in the market.

The scale of our Italian online business has increased significantly over the last two years, with AMPs in H1 56% higher than in H1 2019 on a pro forma basis. Retention rates exceeded our expectations, most notably among customers identified as being traditional retail customers. The proportion of staking from these customers throughout H1 remained at the same elevated levels we experienced during 2020. With added confidence in our ability to retain these customers, we believe the events of the last 17 months may represent a permanent step change in the scale of the Sportsbet business.

We look forward to sharing more details and customer insight with you at our upcoming Italian investor day on September 22nd.”

Flutter Invests Heavily In Sales and Marketing

The financial figures show Flutter invested heavily in sales and marketing in H1 2021. Spend here increased by £302 million ($569 million) to £728 million ($1.371 billion). The majority of the increased marketing costs stem from acquiring new customers in the United States. Its US division accounts for most of the 20% increase in operating costs, too.

Flutter used its latest financial documents to announce the sale of one of its companies. It sold OddsChecker Global Media for £135 million ($254.35 million) in cash. The sale has the potential to increase to £155 million ($292.04 million). OddsChecker is an odds comparison site that is hugely popular in the United Kingdom.

Dig Dig Digger is a relatively new BGAMING pokie that launched on June 11, 2021. BGAMING has recycled the popular “book of” mechanics, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. We put Dig Dig Digger through its paces at Jackpot Jill, and this is what we found.

Dig Dig Digger Fundamentals

The “book of” online pokies can be quite serious, so we are happy BGAMING opted for a more fun approach to Dig Dig Digger. The game revolves around digging for treasure, hence the machine’s name, which is does slightly tongue-in-cheek.

The Dig Dig Digger graphics are HD quality, therefore, pleasing on the eye. Its soundtrack is catchy too, and we found ourselves tapping away to it after a few spins! BGAMING opted for a tried and trusted 5×3 layout that has 10 lines. This lack of lines makes for a simple experience.

Variance is on the high side, so have a decent bankroll to take the strain, even at $0.10 per spin. Add this to the fact the RTP is 95.5%, lower than your typical pokies, and you quickly realise this machine is not a game for the fainthearted.

A maximum payout per single spin of 5,500x makes the grind worthwhile, however.

What Are The Dig Dig Digger Symbols?

Dig Dig Digger ten prize-awarding symbols, all with an archaeological theme. Royals, tens through aces, are the low-value symbols. Three are required to trigger a win. They pay 0.5x for three up to 15x for landing five.

The Scarab, Ankh, and Bowl are higher-value Dig Dig Digger symbols. You only need two matching symbols to trigger a “win.” We say it in quotation marks because two symbols only pays 0.5x. However, five bowls are woth 200x.

Big prizes await those who land the game’s wild symbol or the archaeologist. Prizes of 500x are yours for landing five.

Symbol Match 2 3 4 5
Wild 1.0x 10.0x 100x 500x
Archaeologist 1x 10x 100x 500x
Bowl 0.5x 4x 40x 200x
Scarab and Ankh 0.5x 3x 10x 75x
Aces and Kings 0.5x 4x 15x
Queens, Jacks, and Tens 0.5x 2x 10x

What Are The Features and Bonuses?

Dig Dig Digger uses the same spade symbols for its wild and its scatter. Wild substitute for all standard paying symbols, awarding the largest prize only. Three scatters anywhere on the board starts the game’s free spins round. You receive 10 free spins, plus a payout of 2x, 20x, or 200x your bet for landing three, four, or five scatters.

A random symbol is chosen before the free spins round begins; it becomes an expanding symbol that covers the reels entire when they land. They pay anywhere on the board, leading to more wins than usual.

The base game gives you the chance to gamble with your winning. The aim is to correctly guess the card’s colour. Guess correctly to double your winnings. However, guess wrong and your winnings are lost. This feature repeats, so big wins are possible if your luck is in.

Conclusion

BGAMING played it safe when it released Dig Dig Digger, which is a shame. Other online casino developers are trying new things, but BGAMING reskinned a standard “book of” pokie.

The base game is fun to play thanks to the cartoon-like graphics, but it does not grab your attention for long. Anyone who has played a “book of” pokie will not find anything different here.

The fact the RTP is a shockingly low 95.5% – that is a house edge of 4.5% – makes us want to not recommend this game. Why not give the game a try? We found it entertaining in short bursts, making it a good choice for those of you with limited time to play.

A problem gambler is suing Crown Resorts for almost $4.6 million, the money he lost over 26 years. It is the latest in a long string of negative stories concerning the Italian gambling giant. Ahmed Hansa filed a suit in the Federal Court on August 9. He seeks $4,593,000 in damages, including $200,000 in money he lost that a friend lent him.

Hansa has all the hallmarks of a problem gambler and considers himself a gambling addict. He gambled almost every other day at Crown Melbourne between 1993 and 2019. Hansa claims some sessions spanned 26 hours. The problem gambler alleges Crown knew he was a problem gambler, or at least should have.

The suit shows Hansa pleaded with Crown to ban him from the casino. However, instead of restricting his access, Crown acted irresponsibly and lured him back into the property. Hansa’s losses are astronomical.

Crown never encouraged the problem gambler to gamble responsibly. They never checked his financial or mental wellbeing. The complete opposite happened with Crown enticing him back to the casino.

The casino did this by offering lavish dinners, holidays, gifts, and tickets to concerts and sporting events. Hansa says he lost $30,000 after coming into the casino to collect free Phil Collins tickets.

Royal Commission Hears About This Problem Gambler

The royal commission into Crown’s Victorian licence heard about Hansa in June. Hansa lost $100,000 of chips bought with a cheque that later bounced. Crown staff invited Hansa back to its exclusive Mahogany Room, where they allowed him to gamble on credit. Crown acted like this despite the problem gambler informing staff about his financial woes and that he was considering banning himself from the casino.

Peter Lawrence, the Head of VIP Customer Service at Crown, told the commission the casino acted irresponsibly and in a predatory manner. Lawrence’s comments will add weight to Hansa’s seven-figure claim.

Crown took until 2020 before it banned Hansa from all its properties. However, it was not because he was a problem gambler, but because he started becoming abusive when losing.

Hansa’s gambling problem resulted in him hardly seeing his parents or siblings. Furthermore, his sister sold her Newport home to pay back Hansa’s gambling debts. His wife initially left him and fought Hansa for the custody of their children. Thankfully, now on top of his gambling addiction, Hansa is back living with his wife and children.

Responsible Gaming Had No Input Into Slot machines Purchases

Not only Crown Melbourne is under the cosh because the royal commission into Crown Perth’s operations continues to receive evidence that shows the company in a poor light.

Crown Perth kept its responsible gambling team in the dark when it came to the casino’s electronic gaming machines. Monthly data highlighting the most popular pokies was kept from the responsible gaming team. This seems ludicrous when the team could have used the data to watch for problem gamblers.

James Sullivan is the casino’s Gaming Product Manager. He took the stand on August 9 and confirmed only the gaming machine department received the data. The data shows which games are most popular and, therefore, most profitable.

David Leigh, counsel assisting the commission, grilled Sullivan about the lack of data sharing.

“Do you think it would be appropriate that those people be informed of which persons are spending the most amount of money in the casino so they can make sure they’re not suffering from any form of gambling-related harm?”

Sullivan confirmed the data could be of interest to the responsible gambling team.

Leigh continued his questioning, asking if the responsible gambling team had any input into purchasing machines. In addition, he asked if the team gave feedback on potential purchases that could prove attractive to a problem gambler. Sullivan confirmed the team has zero input into purchasing decisions.
